Claudia L. Martinez

Claudia L. Martinez is the Deputy Director in the Office of Diversity and Engagement at the University of California, Office of the President (UCOP), where she provides systemwide support and guidance for UC’s educator preparation and P-20 college-going initiatives. Prior to UCOP, she held leadership positions at both UC Santa Barbara and at UC Merced managing a diverse portfolio of college-going initiatives for underserved students. In addition to her nearly nineteen years in the field of higher education, Ms. Martinez has extensive policy and advocacy experience working for organizations such as the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation, Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project, the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), and the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute. She is an alumna of the Executive Leadership Academy at UC’s Berkeley’s Center for the Study of Higher Education and is currently the University of California’s liaison to the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). Ms. Martinez received her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Law and Social Policy from UC Berkeley and her Master's Degree in Public Policy from UC Berkeley's Richard and Rhoda Goldman School of Public Policy (GSPP).
