Interim Executive Director, California Competes
Ria Sengupta Bhatt is Interim Executive Director of California Competes, an Oakland-based policy research and advocacy organization with the mission to increase the number of Californians with postsecondary credentials. Ria brings 15 years of experience in improving education equity—conducting policy research, providing strategic consulting, and evaluating programs. Prior to California Competes, she was Project Director at Informing Change, consulting for nonprofit and philanthropic clients in the areas of education, workforce development, and youth engagement. She managed a project on the college application process for low-income students at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. She also researched public higher education systems and K-12 school finance at the Public Policy Institute of California. Ria holds a Master of Public Policy with a concentration in Domestic and International Education Policy from Georgetown University, and a BA in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
